Rain Hibernation To the Pole

Benshi's review :

The irresistible Nico and Mika are back again on the big screen for more adventures– The Hungry Bears - to follow the series that came out in 2019. They are as ravenous as ever, and their pursuit of food takes them to the North Pole (via the South Pole) in a third episode that is a little longer than the usual format – which gives them ample opportunity to enjoy all kinds of cheery encounters along the way!

Here, we renew acquaintances with an energetic duo reminiscent both of Laurel and Hardy and of the two bears in Hey Mister, Let’s Play!, another pair of characters created by the Czech animator Bretislav Pojar. We also see the gorgeous and familiar universe designed by the two directors (both graduates of FAMU, the prestigious Czech film school), who blend stylised, slightly child-like black outlines with colourful patches rendered with very apparent brush strokes. This time we are treated to three stories set in winter, a time when the bears are supposed to be hibernating… but luckily for us, Nico and Mika have such an insatiable hunger for discovery and food that they just can’t lie still!

Suitable for :

Children from the age of 2 or 3 will have great fun following the adventures of Mika and Nico.

Top reasons to watch the film :

  1. Children from the age of 2 or 3 will have great fun following the adventures of Mika and Nico.
  2. The colourful and inventive graphic universe
  3. An invitation to revel in tucking into delicious treats, in the cinema as in life!

Additional information :

The characters who introduce themselves as penguins in the third episode are not to be confused with auks, which are seabirds that are often mistaken for penguins but are in fact a different species and live in the North Pole. Penguins live in the South Pole – the ones in this film are emperor penguins, who can be identified by their yellow necks.
