Synopsis :

This morning the leaves are starting to fall. Wouldn’t now be a good time to learn to fly? A great adventure is afoot for two quirky birds, Lemon and Elderflower.

Benshi's review :

Autumn is coming and soon it will be time to migrate! That’s easy enough for birds, you might say … But it’s no simple matter for Lemon and Elderflower – because they don’t yet know how to fly! This amusing pickle forms the basis of this cheerfully slapstick short film full of twists worthy of Wile E. Coyote of Looney Toons fame (by Tex Avery). Director Ilenia Cotardo quickly brings these two papier mâché puppets to life and their stunts and onomatopoeic utterances provoke plenty of laughter. In the vein of Laurel and Hardy, the partners are never short of ideas. If something needs to be invented, no problem, they’ll get it done! Like their black-and-white predecessors, the two birds prove that persistence pays. In spite of their clumsiness, nothing stops them, and soon their little adventure becomes much bigger than they had imagined. So then, who wants to learn to fly with this lovable duo?

Suitable for :

Cute, colourful and, above all, very funny, Lemon and Elderflower is recommended for viewers aged 3 and over.

Top reasons to watch the film :

  1. To laugh at the remarkable things Lemon and Elderflower get up to
  2. To be amazed by the sophistication of the colourful papier mâché puppets
  3. To learn to fly?

Additional information :

Why do Lemon and Elderflower want to learn to fly? Because they are both migrating birds, which means that as summer finishes, they are to head south to countries with warmer weather. Once temperatures rise up north again, they fly back to resume their daily routines. Do you know what Elderflower is named after? It’s a blue berry that grows in bunches on plants of the same name. Before it turns into a fruit, it is a small white flower. So, have you figured out how to tell Lemon and Elderflower apart? Yep, they have different broaches, each one representing the fruit after which they are named.
