Synopsis :

A pair of characters connected by their hair attempt, after a fashion, to go their separate ways, with increasingly chaotic consequences…

Benshi's review :

What do you do when you are physically attached and connected to someone else? How can you live together when you strive for different things? Such questions form the premise of this amusing animated short film, and, working from there, the director goes exploring in increasingly unexpected directions. Truly, as this film goes along it is impossible to predict what will happen next. All you can do is go with the crazy flow which, like the characters, keeps venturing farther and farther into the absurd and unpredictable. One of them climbs up trees that keep shooting upwards, while the other tries to fly with the birds. As they put some distance between each other, their hair starts to relax, enabling them to move even farther away but, at the same time, creating tangles that could prove even trickier to undo. The characters keep going farther away from each other in pursuit of the thing they crave, and they don’t really think about the consequences. The film eschews the traditional narrative devices as it relinquishes realism and the limits of the possible, thus lending events a deliciously slapstick slant. The Link in the title obviously refers to the physical link between the two main protagonists, the tie that means their every action must be coordinated (or not) and which ensures that whatever one does has ramifications for the other. But a link is also a part of a chain, suggesting that these characters become elements of a chain of their own mindless making. The upshot is Link is a bonkers fable – somewhere between wacky poetry and a metaphysical meditation – and it is not to be missed!
