Synopsis :

A little girl abandoned by her parents on an ice field is reared by a polar bear. When she asks “where do the stars go when they die?”, the grandfather bear sets off on a journey to get to the bottom of that secret…

Benshi's review :

This minimalist short film is an allegorical poem that invites us to the North Pole to admire the stars above the great white expanses. The graphics consist entirely of lines, curves, motifs and geometrical figures reminiscent of primitive art, serving to carry us into a poetic bubble featuring both melancholy and gentleness. The sound work, with the actors’ distinctive voices and Titi Robin’s charming music, help wrap viewers up in the atmosphere. The stars go against time in much the same way as the grandfather goes against the current to find them in the desert. The Great Bear and The Little Bear shine high above, and the answers to questions can be found in Polar skies at night.

Suitable for :

For age 4 and over, for the allegorical aspect, the poetry and the fact the children of that age will be able to relate to the questions asked in the film.

Top reasons to watch the film :

  1. The sparse, primitive style of the animation
  2. The film's coccoon-like atmosphere
  3. Titi Robin's music
