Synopsis :

When the spirit of a dragon inhabits a Bruce Lee action figure, it wakes up and bursts out of its packaging ready to fight for survival in an unknown environment – a human being’s bedroom.

Benshi's review :

Picking up the baton from Toy Story, in which toys come to life and embark on adventures all on their own while humans aren’t looking, The Little Dragon depicts the adventures of a Bruce Lee action figure in a bedroom where it encounters other toys inspired by cinema history. This tribute to the legendary actor brims with madcap situations where the toy adopts the role of fighting hero in a hostile world. Young cinema lovers who are unfamiliar with Bruce Lee’s martial arts films can still enjoy watching the often amusing exploits of the action figure. This is a stop motion film with puppets animated using a series of live action stills filmed in the bedroom of a sleeping Bruce Lee superfan. And as you will see, when Bruce Lee is mixed with Toy Story, the result is a funny and epic hit!

Suitable for :

The film is suitable for children aged 6 and over, as the fight scenes are humorous and contain no violence.

Top reasons to watch the film :

  1. A story that nurtures a sense of adventure and and the ability to appreciate the way things can take sudden and surprising turns
  2. A tribute to several cinema legends
  3. A subtle new use of superfans' toys
  4. A very creative film that cleverly blends live action and stop motion

Additional information :

As well as casting a Bruce Lee character in the yellow costume he wore in his last film, Game of Death, this film also depicts Steve McQueen, Rita Hayworth and Humphrey Bogart, whose names appear on toy boxes. This short film is part of the Animator's Studio collection in which directors pay tribute to cinema actors by using animation techniques to re-interpret iconic features associated with the late stars’ worlds.
