A little house alone in the middle of the countryside, the incessant sound of rain falling, and a voice … of a TV forecaster saying the dreadful weather isn’t going to end any time soon. In just a few shots the setting is made clear – this is the solitary everyday life of an old man who dreams of being in some other, exotic place. But how can a person escape a dreary routine and satisfy their wanderlust when the rain keeps beating down and age prevents them from going as far as they’d like to? That’s the question asked by this short film … and it answers it in a lovely way. Ultimately, thanks to the power of the imagination, the man uses the deluge to re-invent his humdrum existence and create paradise right where he is. The unexpected payoff in Tomorrow It Rains, complete with a ukulele tune, leads to a colourful conclusion sure to bring smiles to viewers’ faces. Viewers can also enjoy the short film’s traditional animation, including meticulously detailed puppets! With deliberately jerky movements the puppets perfectly convey the difficulty the old man has getting around and also increase viewers’ feeling of being in a dream …
This is an animated film that encourages children and grown-ups, including even grandparents, to give free rein to their dreams. As simple as that.
